Folk Ridge - History Image

Folk Ridge began in December 2016, founded by band leader Ralph Esteva and his longtime friend Casper Santillan. Before Folk Ridge, Ralph and Casper were involved in the local Punk Rock scene, sharing years of experience playing and performing together. Their musical direction eventually took a different path, inspired in part by Ralph’s uncle, Herby, who was a band leader of Country and Folk groups in the Philippines during the 1980s.

With this influence in mind, Ralph and Casper shifted their focus toward Folk and Country music, wanting to explore a sound that felt distinctive within Manila’s musical scene. What began as a simple Folk-oriented group grew into Folk Ridge, built around a love for timeless songs, storytelling, and music that could connect with audiences across generations.

The band's early repertoire was influenced by artists such as The Beatles, Cat Stevens, James Taylor, Bread, Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, and other Folk, Country, and Rock & Roll artists. Over time, the group performed in different local productions, venues, and private gatherings while continuing to develop its sound and identity.

Like many live bands, Folk Ridge faced an unexpected interruption when the COVID-19 pandemic began in 2020. The band became inactive for approximately five years as live performances and music activities came to a halt. Despite the long break, the idea of Folk Ridge remained.

In 2026, Folk Ridge began rebuilding and recruiting musicians once again, marking a fresh start for the band. After years apart, Ralph and Casper were also reunited as part of the new lineup. Casper had previously been replaced by Alex during the band's earlier years, making his return an important part of Folk Ridge's new chapter.

Today, Folk Ridge is a four-piece live band based in Metro Manila, with Folk and Country music at the heart of its sound. The band focuses on familiar classics, popular songs, and sing-along favorites that remain relatable to Filipino audiences of different generations.

Folk Ridge continues to preserve and share the music that inspired its beginnings while bringing its own Folk and Country sound to weddings, parties, bars, restaurants, and other special occasions. For the band, this new chapter is not simply a reunion—it is a fresh start and a continued effort to keep Folk and Country music alive.
