Folk Ridge - History Image

December of 2016 when band leader Ralph Esteva came up with idea of forming a band drawn from inspirations from his uncles who work in Hong Kong as musicians, as well as listening to folk music, which he thought something that was lacking in the Manila Music scene. The band was still unnamed, simply a folk band.

Casper Santillan, a good longtime friend since early punk rock days back in college, first collaborated with Ralph. Then, Alec Nico and Ralph Almonte, bass, and guitar respectively, completed the first quartet. They all had their fair share of jamming into Beatles songs, Cat Stevens, James Taylor, Bread, and Bob Dylan. A year after, their first gig by invitation was at the Function Room, Venice Luxury Residences, Taguig City.

As a young band with equally young members, work schedules and external issues got in their way after a few music local acts. Then, Folk Ridge was born along with the needed reformation of the band. Through websites, social media, referrals and personal invitations, a new quintet was formed. Alex Mendenueta, a school mate of Ralph Esteva, Hiro D’ Angelo, a theater actor, Jamil Villanueva and Aron Ape, who both passed the auditions among many who answered the faceboook invitation, completed the new group, though still led by Ralph Esteva.

The present members have shared the same eagerness, passion, dedication, and love for music to keep this band moving forward. They have had several gigs in different productions so far to gain the experience and serve their listeners with good ole folk and rock n roll music.
